It took four days for Hiccup to realize there was something very wrong with him. Well, maybe wrong was the, well, wrong word. But something was definitely not right. Very, very not right. Every since the day he had fallen, his arm had felt strange. When he mentioned it to his dragon, the beast had, of course, been confused, and had made his annoyance clear that something was wrong with his human. Since then, he had been keeping a close eye on the human.

The morning found Hiccup asleep in the meadow, having fallen asleep last night with Toothless, and he let out a tired yawn, pushing himself up and glancing around. When he couldn't see Toothless, he stood and made his way toward the beach. When he broke free of the trees he smiled at the sight of Toothless fishing.

"Hey, bud" he called as he walked over "I still can't feel my arm" he rolled the shoulder experimentally and sighed "catch anything good?"

"Quite a lot, actually" was the response, the dragon facing him and offering a happy smile. Hiccups jaw dropped, and he took a step away from the dragon. "Hiccup?" He tilted his head

"O-okay, I'm crazy!" The Viking cried, taking nervous steps away from the dragon "lack of human contact has driven me absolutely bonkers!"

The dragon took a worried step forward, and Hiccup jerked a step back.

"Hiccup?"

With that, the human let out a shriek and turned on his heel, bolting into the woods as fast as he could. As he ran is eyes darted around, taking in his surrounds and planning where he had to turn and where he had to jump, several dozen feet away from where he was. His eyes noted every dip in the ground that might trip him out, every slight bumps, every rock in his path.

He glanced over his shoulder and a shriek escaped him when he spotted Toothless running after him. He turned, a startled scream tearing it's way free when he noticed a tree in front of, too soon to even think of avoiding. He threw his injured arm up, skidding to a stop when his hand met the bark and the bark splintered, sending the tree to the ground and out of Hiccups way.

"What's happening to me!?" He cried

"Hiccup!" He whirled

"Stay way from me!" He yelled, taking several hurried steps back, back coming in contact with the tree Toothless had wanted him to be able to climb. Without seeing another option he turned around, grabbing a branch on the tree, and pulling. He instantly shot up, and his eyes widened. With that in mind he brought his legs to the trunk and used them to propel him further, scrabbling against the bark to the point that he was practically running up the tree, avoiding branches when possible, and using them to sling himself higher when the branch was unavoidable.

Beneath him, he heard Toothless struggling to climb the tree, but he refuse to acknowledge that, simply focusing on climbing, and his newfound strength. When he reached the top canopy of the tree he perched himself on a branch and tensed, waiting warily for the dragon to show up. Once it did, he spoke

"Hiccup-"

"What is happening to me?" He demanded "can you really talk? Or am I just crazy?"

"I can talk" he responded

"That's what a hallucination would say!" He snapped

"Wait, you can understand me?" Toothless tilted his head "and how can you speak my language?"

"I'm not! I'm speaking mine!"

"You most assuredly are not speaking in your native language, Hiccup" he crept closer "I apologize, I fear I might have done something to do without meaning to"

"What?" He tensed, leaning away from the dragon "what did you do?"

"My saliva seems to be affecting the way certain parts of your body were built" he responded "which would explain the strength and-"

"Am I going to turn into a dragon!?" He screeched, terror obvious in his tone

"What? No!" He assured him "you're just going to get stronger and-" he broke off "well, I don't know the rest. But you won't turn into a dragon!"

Hiccup out his face in his hands

"This is just too freaky" he tried to take a step back, only for his leg to slip off the tree and send him plummeting toward the ground. A shriek escaped him "Toothless-" before he could say any more, the dragon had his arms around the teenager, wings spread to at least lighten their fall. Hiccup was surprised to admit that when they hit the ground, he barely felt anything.

"Thanks, buddy" he breathed, head lolling back off the dragons arm, eyes locked on the sky through the dragons wings

Toothless lifted his wings and nodded, raising an eyebrow

"Are you through running away from me, now?"

"Yeah I guess I am" he nodded

"You guess?"

"Yeah" he turned his head to face the beast "I guess"

Toothless rolled his eyes

BOOMBABY

It took them two days to establish that Hiccup had gotten immeasurably stronger -though they figured that out within the first half an hour on the first day-, his eyesight had gotten at least 10x stronger -which actually explained a lot-, and his reflexes were better.

A few of the other perks were that Hiccup could speak to Toothless now, he could hold his breath a lot longer, and his hearing was better. They weren't sure if anything else had happened to the teen, but winter would be coming soon enough and they would find out. Until then, they were content. However, after a small incident involving Hiccups new strength -which he didn't know how to control- the human was scared of touching Toothless, frightened that he would injure the beast again.

And it hadn't even been that bad. He had just shoved him a bit too hard and hurt the dragons shoulder.

Toothless sighed, approaching the teenager and dropping into the sand beside him. Hiccup warily scooted a few feet way, and Toothless sighed.

"Stop" he requested

"No"

"Hiccup please" he insisted "I miss you. I miss touching you. You can't keep avoiding me"

"I can and will" he pouted, however when Toothless shuffled closer he didn't move away "but... I miss you too"

"The prove it" he responded "let me touch you"

Hiccup sighed but remained in place as Toothless reached out and wrapped his arm around the teen, pulling him back into his embrace and letting out a pleased sigh. Hiccup couldn't help but smile, tilting his head so his cheeks pressed against the dragons scales

"I missed you" he mumbled

"As I missed you" was Toothless' response.
