Arnold grinned hugely as he leapt off the plane. His parents called for him to be careful as he ran straight through the airport, the gaurds waving at the familiar blonde football head. The sixteen-year-old was running as fast as he could, desparately pushing himself to move faster. No matter how fast he ran it still didn't feel fast enough.
He ran down the streets of town, passing all the familiar landmarks from his childhood without a second glance. When he finally reached the building he was looking for he practically leapt up the stairs and knocked.
"We don't want an- HEY!" the man exclaimed as Arnold shoved past him and ran straight up the stairs.
She had to be there. She had to be. He didn't know what he would do if she wasn't.
"Hey, Miriam, isn't that the football headed kid that left a while ago?"
"Yea I guess" she drawled tiredly
Arnold skidded to a stop in front of her door and knocked.
"What?!" a very familiar voice snapped from inside. He just knocked again. "For god's sakes wha-" she froze as she yanked open the door
Before she could say a word Arnold had his arms around her and was spinning her around. He set her down after a few minutes but never released her.
"A-Arnold!?" she exclaimed, then looked away "Oh please God tell me this is really you!"
"It's me Helga" he beamed "I'm back from San Lorenzo"
"H-How long have you been back?"
"Well, the plane landed, I practically jumped off of it, and ran straight here" he replied
"You came here first?" Tears were filling her eyes
"Of course I did. I missed you" he squeezed her tight
"I missed you too, Football head" she beamed, snuggling into his embrace
Both fell silent, unsure where to go from there. He had been gone since they were ten, and hadn't been able to visit; they didn't have the time or money yet. Both were forced to write letters back and forth, which, Helga had to admit, had been fun.
Sometime after he left -maybe only a month after?- Arnold had asked her in his letter what exactly they were, since they had kissed in the jungle, and he had said he loves her back.
She had replied and said she didn't know, but she still loved him, and they agreed to give a long distance relationship a try. So, for six years, they had been dating via letters; adding pictures for each other, arnold sent souvenirs, while Helga sent cookies. Delicious cookies as a matter of fact.
But, after six years, neither knew what to do now that they were back in the same room as each other. Arnold finally pulled back a bit, and cupped her cheeks
"Just as beautiful as always" he smiled
"Well, you're looking good yourself"
Arnold hesitated briefly, indecision clouding his mind. However, after seeing her smile brilliantly at him he leaned down and captured her lips in a kiss. Their first kiss while actually in an official relationship. Overall third consensual kiss, and he had lost count of how many times she had kissed him without him cluing into it.
Her arms were immediately around his neck and she pulled him closer. When they broke away he beamed at her
"I love you" he smiled
"And I love you, football head" Arnold couldn't help but snicker
"I've missed hearing you call me that"
"How... How long are you going to be here?" she asked slowly
His grin widened
"We're staying here. I guess six years of begging finally payed off" he chuckled "now" he laced their fingers together "My parents want to see you, come on"
Helga immediately squeezed his hand tightly in her own, and allowed him to lead her down the stairs and out the door.
"I knew you'd come back" she whispered, leaning her head on his shoulder
"Because I promised" he smiled "And now you're stuck with me"
"And I wouldn't have it any other way" she assured him
